BMW X5

Whether you love car’s or SUV’s, you will love the new BMW X5. Available not only with both 8 and 6 cylinder petrol engines, but also 6 speed automatic transmission, the driving power and mechanical grace of the X5 once again proves why it is at the top of it’s class in high performance vehicles. While also available as an individual model and security model, for most, the family version of the X5 is the most suitable.

With 315 NM’s of torque, a range of 272-355 BHP, or the ability to travel from 0-60 KM/H in only 6.5 seconds, this is not just your average family SUV. Built standard with X DRIVE, this technology intellectually distributes drive power between the front and rear axles. And as we all love speed, the X5 allows you to push it to it;s limits and still remain safe, thanks to features such as the Adaptive Drive and Active Steering. With the Active Steering capabilities, when traveling at high speeds, the steering angle of the two front wheel’s is reduced, and when you inevitably reach that high speed curve in the road, that’s when the Adaptive Drive feature reacts. During high speed turns, the BMW X5 distributes load change allowing for minimum chance of rollover but providing maximum comfort.

With a low center of gravity, and Double-Track control arms on the front axle; stability increases and creates more responsive steering on practically any driving surface.

Designed in custom fine, polished wood’s, and custom leather combined with a high seating position, road travel of the greatest distance is not only bearable, but physically relaxing and enjoyable. Whether it is just yourself and a friend, or the whole family, with an expandable row of seating, everyone has their own personal comfort and space.

Interior standard features on the BMW X5, include an 8.8 inch video screen, complete with GPS navigation and Vehicle Location System, which allows the driver access to traffic conditions, route information and suggestions, as well as travel information including location’s of hotel’s and restaurants. It also doubles as a DVD, CD, and CD-ROM player.

Some of the optional features on the BMW X5 are very high-tech and truly desirable. These include such options as a two-piece, adjustable panorama glass roof, a 120 degree wide-angle rear-view back-up camera which is displayed on the front seat screen. Also optional is a rear seat 8 inch video screen for use with DVD viewing and includes a remote control and dual earphone outlet’s. And to top off this incredible audio/visual experience are optional state-of-the-art, lower mounted front seat stereo woofer’s.

Yet another option for the business person on the go, is the BMW Online System. This provides Bluetooth and hands-free cellular connectivity as well as Internet connectivity, including full email function.

Whether you are looking for a sleek and modern sports vehicle, or luxurious and comfortable transportation for the whole family, no other vehicle beats the new BMW X5. Fast or slow, it’s the way to go!

To me, living your life to the fullest does not mean graduating from a high-ranking, out-of-state college, or getting a job with a six-figure yearly income, or religiously following after the latest shiny object that Microsoft, Ford, Ikea, or Apple releases. The society we live in today wastes our lives away. It congratulates those who dedicate their lives to the 9 to 5, clean-cut consumer image who slaves after products and labels while maintaining the illusion that one day they will get the perfect body, the most expensive house, or the newest car. It seems to scorn free-thinkers and people who don’t like to sell out to major corperations. The things people slave after, these products, these temporary substitutes for true happiness, they suck the humanity out of the people who waste their lives pursuing them until all they care about is the next greatest form of lifestyle enhancement.

The purist form of happiness you will get out of your life will not come in clever, plastic packaging with the company logo aesthetically placed in a position that was chosen because of some demographic survey. It won’t come from having a body with 2% body fat and an appropriate Body Mass Index. It won’t come from having a 6 million dollar mansion with a pool and 3 BMW’s in the garage. It won’t come from winning American Idol and getting millions of dollars.

“He who dies with the most toys wins.” Right? He who dies with the most toys still dies, and all the money in the world isn’t going to mean anything when your being burnt to ashes or lowered into the ground, your closest family and friends surrounding your grave. To me, living your life to the fullest is all about touching people, contributing something to humanity, to the world, making a difference and not following what every other person is doing. Do something that will prove you’re alive, not just another statistic or demographic that a company or government can tally mark.

Life is something that should not be given away in segments to the things you buy, the jobs you work at or the things you watch on TV. Don’t sell out your humanity for the latest plasma screen, the hottest new phone, or the most popular networking website. Make your own rules, follow your own morals, don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life, not even the person writing this. All in all, it’s your life. Live it the way you want to.

BMW Roadster-a super fast car

Many lovers of German cars who are still too young for a Mercedes prefer a car from the BMW factory in Munich. In 1985, BMW laid the cornerstone for its new design studio,Technik GmbH. More than 100 car fans were able to enjoy themselves under the guidance of Ulrich Benz with pencil, paper, plaster and plastic.

The new sporting car made its first test drive in less than two years. The model was named the Z1. It was a two-person roadster which could be sold since October 1988. For only 80,000 DM the buyer could be sure of an extremely pleasant driving or riding experience. The body was a semi-monocoque with a very low sill line. The upper border of the windshield served at the same time as a roll bar.The body was made of steel. The luggage compartment lid and the side panels were made of plastic. The doors of the Z1 were interesting. A system patented by BMW was used that made it possible for the doors to be sunken into the sills. The door-window glasses went down automatically by electric control. The wheel suspension came from the BMW 3 series and the six-cylinder engine from the 325i powered the rear wheels. Because of the limited car space, the spare wheel-absent. Everybody could get it for at an extra cost. In the autumn of 1991, the last Z1 left the factory. Exactly 8,000 were built. The successor of the Z1 was the D. This car was designed especially for the American market. It was produced in the United States. The Z3 had more of the 507 from the fifties. The ZI was built in a limited series, but BMW had big plans for the new car: to dominate a good part of the roadster market with it after the price had been adjusted. The car’s price, in the cheapest version with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, was less than the purchase price of the Z1. The more expensive version was equipped with a 1.9liter engine with two camshafts and four instead of two valves per cylinder. This engine had 140 hp performance, 25 hp more than its smaller brother. But even in this adaptation, the roadster cost only 10% more than the 1.8-liter model.

BMW dominated with these two models on the market and could meet the competition with equanimity. But the competitors were active, too. BMW was forced to provide the car with a more powerful engine (enough space was under the engine hood). In the winter of 1996-1997, the Z3 appeared with a six-cylince, 2.8-liter 24 valve engine and a 3.2-liter from the M series. The last model was called the M Roadster. The program was complete now and there was a Z3 Roadster for each show. They were super fast cars which could compete with the Mercedes SLK or the Porsche Boxster. The prices grew with the growing amount of hp. BMW cars were selling well and in October 1996 more than 35,000 Z3s were produced in America. Half of these were exported (mostly to Germany). The rest remained in the United States. Between 250 and 300 cars have been produced per day in the United States since 1997. The Z3 and the BMW Roadster were still selling sporting cars when BMW presented its new model, the Z07, in November 1997 at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car seemed to be a clear successor to other sporting cars. The Z07 was was built of an aluminum space frame. The body was made largely of alloys. As for the motor, the makers were rather secretive, but it is almost sure that the car is powered by the new 5.0 literV8 engines with 400 hp installed in the M5 during the autumn of 1998. The model was introduced onto the market in the 1990s.

BMW has a loyal fan base which has helped it lead the market among European motorcycle manufacturers. But challengers to the throne like KTM are aggressively seeking to gain some of that market share. In the world of sports they say that competition brings out the best (and worst) in people, and that’s the same spirit that the boys in Bavaria have used to bring some of that market back home. Looking at its current lineup, BMW brass realized that among its 650cc singles, 1,200cc boxer twins and in-line fours it had, well, nothing in between. It needed a bike to fill that gap and attract more first-time buyers to the BMW experience. The new F800ST (and its sportier brother, the F800S) is the answer. Call them the affordable Beemers.

The F800ST being a BMW a range of options is available, including ABS brakes and matching saddlebags. There’s a clever ratchet system to adjust their size and they’re practical enough, if not the capacious carriers of the older machines.

Two key ingredients for successful sport touring are fuel economy and the functionality of the saddlebags. Despite its 800cc, the Beemer is surprisingly efficient with fuel. We averaged just a tick above 46 mpg in a variety of riding conditions, ranging from the quick canyon blast to the weekend getaway. That efficiency could come in handy, too, as the tank only holds 4.1 gallons. Something we noticed was that our ST’s fuel gauge would always show a full tank, even after traveling more than 100 miles, which should put the bike at about half a tank. It wasn’t until the 150-mile mark or so that the gauge would suddenly drop and show a quarter of a tank remaining. Weird.

What really sets this bike apart however is in the turns. Although I was by no means dragging knees on the demo, I have NEVER RIDDEN A BIKE THAT WAS AS RESPONSIVE AND EASY TO TURN. Pressure on the bars send this bike side to side VERY quickly and it tracks very well once put there. The suspension soaks up midcorner bumps with ease, and exhibits no problems on the brakes. (Dive etc…) It is much more well sorted than other BMW suspensions I have ridden (telelever). Brakes are not sportbike powerful but are more than sufficient and give excellent feedback. ABS….works….and is odd on a motorcycle. You choose whether you need/want it.

Although I didn’t ride with a pax, my wife came and sat on it and said that the comfort was similar to the Sprint ST and substantially better than the SV.

From the Saddle

BMWs get better the harder and longer you ride them, and the F800ST was no exception. A pleasure cruise through the country may be pleasant on just about any motorcycle, but when I rode the F800 between Montreal and Toronto it was a long, hard and fast day.

Characteristic Bimmer quirks are absent, like the sideways twitch when blipping the throttle and scuffed cylinder heads from aggressive cornering. And who can’t appreciate a gearbox that doesn’t clunk when cogs engage.

BMW has unveiled its coupe version of the Z4 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005. BMW Z4 is a, 2-door, rear wheel drive sports car designed by Chris Bangle and was manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It is made bigger and more powerful than its ancestor – Z3.

Z4 was originally built as a roadster. However, this year a coupe version was eventually introduces to the automotive world. It exudes Bangle’s controversial ‘flame surfacing’ design which is said to be aggressive yet stylish. This design is also noticeable in most BMW vehicles.

To grab the attention of the fanatics, Z4 coupe is given a sloping, double-bubble roof that tapers to the rear like a droplet. The front suspension of Z4 is also made different from its ancestor. Said suspension is based on E30 BMW 3-Series only that in the recent version, said is made more advanced. The bigger engines power outputs range from 170 hp (2.2i) to 231 hp (3.0i). On the other hand, the base of the car uses an updated version of the 3.0 L straight-6 N52 engine that produces 195 kW and 315 Nm. This is done to accumulate primed speed.

BMW Z4 is also furnished with tempting equipment. Its pride includes the BMW Z4 alloy wheel, electric roof, standard air-conditioning, CD player, twin front and side airbags, leather upholstery and sports steering wheel. Further, its electronic driver assists in the stability control as well as cover traction.

Prices for BMW Z4 3.0si coupe start at $40,795, $2000 less than its ragtop counterpart. Moreover, the price is almost $10,000 lower than the base price of its rival – Porsche Cayman.

BMW likes to call its cars Ultimate Driving Machines. Hype? Sure. But with the reborn Z4 Roadster and its this-is-why-we-love-to-drive performance, it’s hard not to believe them. The most noticeable change is the hardtop retractable roof, which eliminates its predecessor’s coupe and clothtop models. Convertible purists, prepare to be converted.
